CHARGES OF DRUNKENNESS

- The morbid interest that attracts a j certain section of the public to a tragei dy or anyone connected with a tragedy caused the Police Court to be crowded yesterday, when the husband of the unfortunate Maori woman who lost lier life in the fire, of the previous night was charged with drunkenness in company with the man who was with him at the time of the fire. • ... The deceased’s husband, Henry AVilloughby, alias Ponsonby, was charged with having been found drunk after having been twice previously convicted within the past six months. He was also charged with the breach of a prohibition order. Mr. Finn appeared for the accused. The case was not gone into, however, a remand being asked for by the police and granted. The hearing was fixed for Monday morning. Edward Tittley was also charged with drunkenness, having been twice previously convicted within the past /six months, and having supplied liquor to a -prohibited person, viz., AVilloughby. In this case also, a remand was granted tr> Monday.
