NEW ZEALAND VETERANS’ ASSOCIATION.

BRANCH FORMED IN GISBORNE

A meeting of His Majesty's Veterans was held in the Farmers’ Union Club rooms yesterday afternoon for the purpose of forming >a local lira noli of the Royal New Zealand Association of Hi’s Majesty’s Veterans. The Hon. Captain Tucker presided, and there were twenty veterans present. A letter itv as received from Air. J. P. AVard sympathising with the movement, and apologising for absence. On the chairman’s motion it was unanimously resolved that a branch should be. formed, jn Gisborne. Captain C. AY. Ferris, who convened the meeting, read a letter from the lion, general secretary in AVellington outlining the steps necessary to form a branch, and stating that it desirable that those who boro fpnis should be allied together. Officers of the branch wore then elected as fellows President of the Association, ~kord Plunket; vice-president, Hon,. Captain 'Tucker; secretary. Air. J. P. Ward; treasurer, Air. J. G. Witty; auditor, Air. V. Pyke: committee, Messrs C. AV. Ferris, J. Alaynard, H, Reid, J. Townley, A. Graham, 0, Morel!, - and. Colonel- Porter. A letter 'received'by Air. Thos. Goldsmith from .the Defence Department was handed in and read. It showed that an application for a Alaori war medal could not be granted owing to there being no evidence to show that the application was correct. Considerable (discussion took place over the desirability of the veterans receiving medals, and it was resolved that the secretary should, write to the member for Gisborne,, the Hon. Jas. Carroll, giving him the names of those entitled to the medal, and asking him to take what steps he could to have the medal awarded them. 11 the following list of those eligible to belong to the Gisborne brancli of the Association has been compiled by Captain Ferris: —Colonel Porter, Colonel AVinter, Hon.
