Colonel Foxton, representative ait the Defence Conference, has returned. Referring to the separate naval schemes of New Zealand and Australia lie says: “I do not think Sir Joseph Ward will .mind me saying that in and out of the conference I urged upon him .the desirability of New Zealand throwing in it,s lot with the Commonwealth and joining m the responsibility for a truly Australasian fleet unit, hut- I was unsuccessful.”
