WAIAPU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING,
At tlx© monthly meeting of the Waia--1 pu County Council, Mr. K. S. Williams (chairman) - presided. Tlie other' members present were: Messrs A'. B. Williams, T. E. Sherwood, H. deLautour, and E. R. Murphy. 1 Tlie request of Emilia Tamanaln for a road to be made through Tapuwaeroa Block, Tuparoa, was refused. The plans and specifications, duly certified, for the Waiapu Inland Hoad, were returned by the Public Works Engineer at Otokp. A letter was read from the Hon. A. T. Ngata, M.P., Wellington, re the widening of the road through Te Ariuru, Tokomaru Bay, asking the Council to consider the question of compensation, which the secretary stated he had replied to. The Secretary of the Treasury,. Wellington, wrote acknowledging tho receipt of a special order in connection with the Mata bridge,.-loan. Raana Walker, Cape Runaway wrote with,’regard to the formation of a stock track. A letter was read from the Maori Council, stating that they intended collecting their own dog tax next year, and thenceforward. It was decided to refuse permission to Mr. P. Ngata and others to build a boat-shed on the Beach Road, Port Awanui. In was resolved, on the request.of Mr. A. B. Reid, to have a road prospected at Karakatawhcro. The application of Hare Hantapu, Tokomaru, for a slaughtering license at Peranau was held over for further particulars to be forwarded. Mr. W. F. Sinclair, of Tologa Bay, wrote offering puriri blocks and bricks for a roadman’s cottage at Hikuwai. It was resolved to inquire as to prices, and when the material could be available. The Secretary of the Treasury wrote informing tin* Council that the Mata bridge- loan was available. A copy of tlie local Bill re the proposed Taldrau County was received from Messrs Rees Bros, and Bright, of Gisborne. ' . It was decided, on tlie motion of Cr. deLautour, that a grant of £5 bo made for drainage work at Te Araroa. It was decided to proceed ■ with O’Shea’s contract, and it was also resolved to attend to tlie footway on the river bank.
On the motion of Cr. Williams, it was agreed to metal the road leading to Dr. Davis’ residence. It was resolved to hold over the question of the construction of the Kopuapounama bridge. The following tenders wero accepted: Metalling Tapuwaeroa Valley Road, 5s per yard, J. O’Regan; tender No. 13, Waipiro-Ihunga Road, £384 7s '6d, Dunlop and Smith; tender No. 14, Waipiro-Ihunga Road, £B4O, Dunlop and Smith. Accounts amounting to £I7OO were passed for payment. It was decided at a special meeting of the Council to declare Bathurst burr and variegated thistles noxious weeds., and an order was made accordingly.
