PATHE PICTURES
Great interest had been aroused in the new programme of the Pathe Picture Company, and there was a large attendance at the theatre on Saturday afternoon and evening. The pictures were all' presented without a hitch. They were clearly shown, the objectionable flicker being entirely absent. The new. programme is full of decidedly good subjects, educational, comic, scenic, and dramatic. One of the most interesting films presented, “Ten Minutes with the Mexican Army,” showing Mexican troops carrying out manoeuvres, gun practice, and bridge building, received a hearty ovation. The star picture, “The Wihte Chief,”' is ono of much interest. The story is that of a white trapper in the country of the Red Indians. He falls in love with an Indian maiden, who is eventually sold to a Mexican. Hie white man warns the Mexican to keep the girl without harm, but finding him ill-treating her, carries her back to the wig-wams of her people, and is there made a chief and married to her. The picture shows a great race and fight between Indians and Mexicans, and a series of Mexican pastimes. “A Irani Hide in Bombay,” shown to the accompaniment o? “Won’t Aon come back to Bom-.Bombay ; ’’ played on the piano, was an educational film of decided intei'est and value. A dramatic study of great force was entitled “A Heroine of the Force,” and another good dramatic picture was “Forgottep.” The humorous subjects were very good, and caused much laughter. The best were “Snowballing,” and “Ralph benefits by his curiositv.” A striking film called “Mother Love in Animals ” is well worthy of commendation'. It gave illustrations of many different animals, with their young playing around them or feeding. This programme will be shown again to-night. To-morrow night in addition to a special selection of pictures, the management will award a prize of one guinea for the best comic song sung by a local amateur. The competition is open to all local amateurs, entries to 1 he made not later than 10 o’clock to-night. ,
