NINE-ROOMED RESIDENCE BURNED.
TPer Press Association.! HASTINGS, Nov. 6. A nine-roomed house in Maraekakaho road, the owner being Mrs George Smith and the occupier William Sinclair, destroyed by fire .at 4 o’clock this morning. The origin is unknown. The building was insured tor £250 in the North British office, and the furniture for £l2O in the Queensland.
ACTION AGAINST AN HOTEL- ' KEEPER.
DANNEVIRKE, Nov. 6. At the Court yesterday a laboring man named Gorzelliek sued Aitken, proprietor of the Herbertville hotel, tor £45 18s 6d, balance of moneys placed in defendant’s hands in advance for liquor and accommodation. After a lengthy hearing, the S.M. gave judg-. ment'for £2O 19siwitH costs £9 18s 6d. Frank Gleeson Avas sentenced to a month’s imprisonment for theft of 20 hooks from tlio Dannevirke public library. FOUND DROWNED. WELLINGTON, Nov. 6. At an inquest concerning the death of Minnie Curran, whose body was found on the beach at Seatowri yesterday, the coroner’s verdict was • “found drowned.” The evidence showed that deceased did not enjoy good health. She was of a nervous disposition, and suffered from giddiness.
