There are about f>o executive lieutenants in the navy who started as lads on training ships. The most popular topic in Napier at the present time is whether the tearooms should open on Sundays. The question has quite captured public attention, and the Hawke’s Bay newspapers are flooded with correspondence on the matter. The -Hawke’s Bay “Herald” has published along interview with the proprietor of the tea-rooms. He states that when ho put in his tender the terms of the lease contained a clause prohibiting Sunday opening, but several councillors led him to believe that the clause would be deleter!, otherwise he would not have tendered so high a figure as £IOO a year. The Borough Council has decided that the rooms shall he closed, during church hours.
