BOY KILLED IN A SAWMILL

r ßrr Prks'h Association.l AUCKLAND, Nov. 8. At the Kauri Timber Co.’s mill, Whitionga, a loose piece of timber was cauglit by the back teeth of a circular saw and thrown with considerable force. It struck a son of Dr. Harry Eyre below the ribs and penetrated the abdomen, lie died ifrom hemorrhage and shock. AN OLD SETTLER’S FATE. CAMBRIDGE, Nov. 8. News has just reached Cambridge that Joseph Lane, a well-known settler, connected with farming institutions, has been killed at his farm, Kaipaki. Deceased was ringing a bull, when tlio animal lifted his head, and the lever struck Mr. Lane on tlie side of the bead, killing him instantaneously. Mr. Lane was aged 70. He was .an old settler, greatly respected.

* NAPIER, Nov. 8. An inquest was held to-day touching the death of a married woman named Eliza Marsh, aged 46 years, wife of Richard Marsh. Air. McCarthy, Coroner, returned a verdict that she died at Napier Hospital on Saturday from "asphyxia, caused by her unhealthy condition and the performance of an operation to relievo strangulated hernia, and that the operation was a necessary part of an attempt to save her life, and was skilfully performed. A Maori girl, two and a half years of age, named Materori I'uriri, daughter of Hemi Puriri, of Bridge Pa, was accidentally drowned in a creek this afternoon while her mother was engaged in cooking. WOMAN’FOUNT) DEAD. WELLINGTON, Nov. 8. Margaret Bain, a single woman, was found dead m bed on Saturday afternoon. At the inquest medical evidence was to the effect that deceased’s death was either due to suffocation or acute alcoholism. A verdict was returned accordingly. AN INFANT DROWNED. NELSON, Nov. 8. A male child, a year okl, son of Air. Cecil Hooper, storekeeper, Wakefield, was drowned through supping into tlie river on Saturday afternoon. The child followed his father, and was not missed till too late. The body has been recovered. A CHILD SCALDED. A female child, aged two years, daughter of Air. Leonard Wadsworth, Waiti, was severely scalded on the hack on Friday, through falling into a boiler, from which the clothes had just been taken. LITTLE BOY SUFFOCATED. Eric, son of Air. Frank Coleman, schoolmaster, Waimea West, aged three, was found suffocated in bed on Saturday. Ho had suffered from cold, and was unable to breathe. RAILWAY SHUNTER KILLED. OAMARU, Nov. 8. Robert Stewart, railway employee, injured whilst shunting in the .railway yards on tlie 22nd October, died last night. He- was 28 years of ago, and married. A SUDDEN CALL. DUNEDIN, Nov. 8. A man named Innes, aged about -60 years, died suddenly on Saturday. He dropped down in Princes Street, and was taken to bis home, where ho died about two hours later without having regained consciousness. Death is supposed to be due to heart disease.

A MOTOR-CAR ACCIDENT.

Mr. W. C. MacGregor, Dunedin City solicitor, who has returned from Australia, was the victim of a nasty motorcar accident while in Sydney. He was returning from the golf links, when the car collided with a post, and Mr. MacGregor had his jaw and arm broken.
