THE NAVY LEAGUE.

ORGANISING SECRETARY’S VISIT

Mr. C. W. Palmer, honorary organising secretary of the Navy .League, visited the public school and the High School yesterday afternoon, and gave short addresses on “The Objects of the League.” Mr. Palmer was well pleased with the great interest shown an Gisborne and the large membership of 328, the largest of any school in the world. In view of this fact, a special photograph of the members, with His Worship tlie Mayor and Mr. Palmer, was taken, and will be forwarded for reproduction in the Navy League’s publication at Home. Mr. Palmer leaves for South after the. lecture on Wednesday, but he hopes to be . able to visit and give short addresses at the Mangapapa and Kaiti schools before leaving, but he will not be able to visit the' country schools. To-morrow* evening Mr. Palmer gives a lecture in His Majesty’s Theatre, the subject being “Tlie Evolution of tile British Navy from the Saxon period to the Present Date (submarines, torpedoes, etc.),” at. which illustrated limelight views will be given. In addition to the lecture, patriotic songs will bo sung by Messrs Mitchell arid Teat, and orchestral music will be rendered by an orchestra organised by Mr. J. H. Gittos. The City Band will also be in attendance, and will render an appropriate overture. A novel feature at the lecture will be an exhibit of a piece of sail cloth from one of the ships of Nelson’s fleet. The sail was actually in use at the battle of Trafalgar. .* In order to defray expenses a small charge of Is will be mado for admittance to the circle of tlie theatre, and 6d to other parts. Members of the Navy League will be admitted to all part's at half-price, on production of their Navy League tickets. Those who do not possess the tickets may obtain them on application at the schools.
