The following statement lias been filed by Charles Eitstachio Christopulo, confectioner, v,bankrupt, with the Official Assignee (Mr. J. Coleman): “I commenced business in December. 1907, as a confectioner with a capital of £44 18s 2d, in premises belonging to Mr. J. Score, and carried on until January 15, 1909, when I transferred to an. adjoining shop belonging to the same owner. I was paying rent for the two shops from January Ist of 1909 to January 14, 1909, as I had to get the latter premises in order before I could open. Business was going very a veil until tlie end of 1908, and the outlook being cheerful encouraged ino to enter into the new premises, adding tea-rooms to my business. Trade- being very bad during the Avinter through the prevailing general depression (this much against my expectations) caused me to get behind Avith my creditors. 1 hoped, hoAvever, seeing that the summer months Aver© coming on, to have an increased trade, Avhich would have enabled me to meet my obligations, this especially in view of show and race AA'eek, for Avhich I Avas well prepared, having a good stock in hand, which unfortunately through a fire in the adjoining premises, occupied by the Civil Service Bakery, Avas practically spoiled by Avater. In addition to this, my upstairs rooms, Avhich were used for tea rooms, had been closed. Unfortunately I had no insurance on my stock, etc., as tlie -policy Avhich I bad AA-as cancelled by the company in August. I had called a meeting of my creditors for the 15th inst., but owing to a summons being issued against me, by one of my creditors, I felt that 1 could not, out of common fairness to my other creditors, do otherwise than file my petiton.
