A NEW NAVAL BASE

The Admiralty is establishing a new base at Scapa Flow, in the Orkney Islands, and secondary bases at Wick and Cromarty, ■ besides numerous wireless stations in Scotland and on the east coast. THE CANADIAN NAVY. OTTAWA, Nov. 8. The Canadian Government has decided to borrow two cruisers from the Admiralty for the purjiose of inaugurating the training of officers and men for the Canadian navy. A CANADIAN LABOR PROTEST. (Received November 9, 10.19 p.m.) OTTAWA, Nov. 9. A Labor deputation presented to Sir Wilfred Laurier the Trades Congress resolutions against a Canadian navy and the extension of militarism in Canada. Sir Wilfrid Laurier defended the Government’s action. LONDON, Nov. 9. The “Times” correspondent points out that -many powerful parties in Canada prefer a direct contribution to the Admiralty, though the- balance of opinion may not be on their side.
