GISBORNE CLUB

A largo number of the members of the Gisborne Bowling Club electee! to spend their holiday on the club’s green, which presented a busy scene ail day, play being carried on from 10 in the morning till Gin the evening. The green was in capital order,' playing true and keen, and those who patronised it put in af very pleasant day. A commencement was made with _ the handicap fours, Witty’s rink obtaining a decisive victory over Craig’s. Three games in the handicap singles for Mr. F. W. Pettie’s prize were played. A number of rink and other matches arranged on the ground were also played. The members of the luranganui Bowling Club celebrated the Kings Birthday yesterday by putting in a full day’s play on their green. the tii’'f was in a condition that gladdened the heart of the enthusiast, for it played exceedingly keen and true, and with no wind whatever bowls had only to be placed correctly to fulfil anticipations. There was a large number of visitors present, a rink being present from the Gisborne Club, both morning and afternoon. Ladies were also in attendance in goodly numbers in the afternoon, when afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. M. G. Nasmith, assisted by Misses Nasmith (.2), and proved most acceptable. Four rinks were occupied by play in the morning and five in the afternoon. Among the games played were the semi-final and final of tho Dougins Feathers. The results were .—Douglas Feathers. — AY. Hav and M. G. Nasmith junr (skip) 21 * beat G. Edwards and P. E. Hallam (skip) 14, —This was the semifinal in the competition. J. B. Leydon acted as substitute for G. Edwaids, while liav was accepted as Nasmith s No. 1 in place of D. J. Barry, who was absent and bad never played a game in the competition. Hallam and his partner drew first blood with a two, but their opponents replied with a 'full hand.” A ding-dong “go” ensued to the 14th head, when the board showed 12 all. Then Nasmith and ’his mate drew steadily away and, despite Halhun’s efforts', won by seven points. AV. Hay and M. G. Nasmith junr (skip) 23 beat AV. Edwards and J. D. Jeulie (skip) 15.—This was the final to decide the holders of the Feathers. R. Thehvall acted as substitute for AV. Edwards. The pairs put up a single each, and on the stli head Nasmith and his mate were sto 4. Then the leading pair put up nine on tho next five heads, the board showing 14 to 6 on the 10th head. On the next eight heads Jeune and his partner recovered a lot of leeway, being 15 to 19 on the 18th head. From this point, however, Jeune did not score, and suffered defeat by eight points. —Bennett Cup.— Good entries are being received for the Bennett Cup, and are due to close to-morrow afternoon.
