fPjsa Piikss Association.] WELLINGTON, Nov.. 9. Despite the exceedingly disagreeable gale, there was a big attendance at the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club’s sports on the .Basin. Reserve .this afternoon. Amongst those present- were His Excellency the Governor, Lord Phmket, who was. accompanied by Captain Shannon, AJD.O., Archbishop Redwood, the Hon. A. It. Guinness (Speaker of the House of Representatives), the Mayor of Wellington (Dr. A. K. Newman), and several members of Parliament.
100 Yards Handicap: St, H. Darton (syds) 1. Half-mile: J. F. AVilson (scr) 1.
120 Yards Hurdles: A. Evcnson (owe 10yds) 1. Mile Run: AV. B, Heffer (35yds) 1. 330 Yards Handicap : E. C. Hubbard (12yds) 1. ' Pole Vault: A. Evcnson 1. In this event L. McKay jumped .only 9ft 9in, compared with his lift lin at Hobart last year. Great interest was taken in Marathon race from AVellington to Taitai and back, a distance of 26 miles 385 yards. There were 10 starters, namely, AV. Bennett (AVellington Harriers), E. Delaney (W.A.A.C.), P. J. Fitzgerald (AV.A.A.C.), C. R. Lambert (Wellington Harriers), M, Mulcahv (W.A.A.0.), C. Reid (Auckland), H. Thompson (W A.A.C.), AV. F. Simpson (Canterbury), AV. H. Press (Wellington! Harriers), G. F. Wilkins (Christchurch). At Ngahauranga Reid (Auckland) was leading, Mulcahy second, Fitzgerald third, and the rest bunched. C. Read still led at Lower Hutt, Mulcahy in second place, but Bennett had superseded Fitzgerald. At Taitai Reed was still leading. At Lower Hutt, on the return journey,Thomson assumed the lead with Fitzgerald second and Simpson third. At Pctono the positions were: Thompson 1, Fitzgerald 2, Bennett 3, Simpson 4. From this out Thompson had the race in hand. Only four completed the course, and the result and times are as follows: —Thompson, 21irs 58mins 23sec, Simpson 3hrs 4mins 29sec, Bennett 3hr Bmin ssec, Press 3hr 21mm 41scc, Lambert 31ir 25mii\. 17see. Thompson’s time eclipsed the Australasian record by 52 2-ssec. A sealed handicap was- also decided unon in connection with the race, an dit was .won by Thompson. The result was: Thompson (lidcp Bmin) 2hr 50m in 23sec, Bennett (10mm) 21ir 58min osec, Simpson (scr) 3hr 4min 29sec; Press (10mm), 3hr Umin 31sec, Lambert (12mm) 31ir. 13min 17see.
