Ihe attendance was larger than on the corr ivondm<r day last year the takings at the gates totaling £24i, as against sv fa-- as the animal exhibits are concerned ‘ cattle made a much more mines?nr’ display than last year, tne improvement in this respect being characteristic cf the whole of the classes. The effects of the splendid season were manifested by the uniiorrniy excellent condition of the beasts, collective*- and individually. The entries m the premier class, shorthorns, have never been seen to better advantage. A. Chamberlain and the Canterbury Agricultural College figure prominently in tne honors list "There was a strong class of three-vear-old heifers, and a capital array of two-vear-old heifers. Ihe Lincoln 00lW.P exhibit was chosen, ior pride ot place from a field of ten year.mg iiei-.Jei-scv classes were all well supported, the prominent exhibitors being L E 13 AYatson fwho gained the championships for bull and cow) H. E. Paryman. D- S. AYanston, and Airs. A. AlcLachlan. . . Avr.shires also made a good, siiov. mg, the trustees of the estate of .John Barlarc gaining medals for a bull and for n cow in milk. Airs. A. The* Mc-rino section v. ss \(*ry good, and- tlie numbers were sensibly increased by the capital entries of R. D. McLean, of Hawke’s Bay. English Leicester. s were very good, as usual, and there was an exceedingly fine display of Border Leicesters, most of the leading South Island breeders exhibiting. Lincolns were good. Despite the absence of Messrs Bealey Bros., the leading Romney Alarsh breeders, this section showed considerable improvement owing to the advent of outside breeders, including Air. Ernest Short, of Feilding. Shropshires, Southdown?, and Corr-edales wore all well, represented by good stock, and unquestionably this year’s Canterbury show of sheep coura riot be equaled anywhere in the Dominion fo rnnmbers, variety, and allround quality. Only the draught home classes were judged to-day. * Unfortunately there were more than the usual number or .seratellings, owing to one of the leading South Canterbury breeders having influenza in his stables. Only a few of the young animals were of outstanding merit, among the exceptions being the fine two-year-old colts of Mr. J. D. Wyllie (Sefton), and the mares and fillies of Messrs Liken (Oamaru) and Shearer and Taylor (Ashburton).
