t -an . ENJOYABLE FUNCTIOX. (From Our Own Correspondent.) \ very enjoyable evening was spent in the Rakauroa Schoolroom on * riday, •itli inst., the occasion being the R.C.C.’s first annual social Though die weather has been Mteeedmglylo'igh latclv it cleared overhead on HmiscUy night, and Friday was all .that could bt desired. The roads were in a shocking state, therefore the hall was _not overcrowded with ladies, but upvfifteen turned up to enjoy themselves. Excellent music was sxipphed by Mes c rs C Smith (piano), J. B. Claik (ac cord eon). P. Clark (accordeon), lurner (piano), W. Clark (accordeon) S. J • Beaufoy (piano), and J. Lenane (accoidoan. Mr. T. Grace acted as M.G. Songs were given by Mr. MacCasrhin and Mr. J McKenzie caused great laughter n ith a recitation. Great credit is due to the ladies of the district who supplied a bounteous supper. Dancing was kept up until two o’clock m the morning when the company dispersed tor a muddy ride to their homes. PRESENTATION. Mr. Stanley V. Beaufoy, who is retiring from the Rakauroa-Mhakarau-Matawai mail service at the end of the year was greeted with a very pleasant surprise at the Rakauroa Cricket Club s social when the people of tho disturb presented him with a handsome gold watch chain as a token of esteem., Mr J. B. Clark, in making the presentation, said the people regretted to think they were losing Mr. Beaufoy who had endeavored in every way to give them entire satisfaction. _ On receiving the presentation Mr. Beaufoy was greeted with applause and in thanking the -people of the district he said lie felt quite conceited after hearing such remarks as Mr. Claike had. made. He had great pleasure in accepting the present and thanked them, not onlv for their kindness then, but also for the hospitality he had received ever since lie had been carrying the mail. In concluding he desired, as the Now Year was quickly approaching, to convey to them his best wishes for a bright and prosperous New Year. The recipient was loudly applauded.
