Sir R. W. Perks, Liberal member for Louth, who did not vote for the Budget, intimates that he will not seek re-election. He denounces the disastrous experiments in Socialism foreshadowed in Mr. Lloyd-George’s and Mr. Winston Churchill’s speeches. The Council of the Liberal Association at Louth lias urged Sir R. W. Perks to re-considcr his decision, and condemned the “Daily News” for its attacks on Sir R. W. Perks for his re-, plyWOMEN’S SUFFRAGE. (Received November 12, 10.20 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 12. The Earl of Crewe, in reply to a deputation of members of the Suffrage Union, within the Women’s Liberal Federation, said it was impossible to make the women’s vote a plank in the election platform. Dwelling on the sharp differences in the Government and Parliament on the question, he remarked that if the question were put to the House of Commons a.s it now stands, women’s suffrage would he beaten by a large majority. Changes in those now holding office in Parliament •were certainly involved. In making the question a definite' issue at the election, the party would suffer a distinct Ids.s of strength. THE DUKE OF ARGYLL ON TARIFF REFORM. The Duke of Argyll, speaking at a Conservative conference at Dundee, said that if the Lords rejected the Bridget, with a strong .protest against its provisions, and a declaration that the Lords were not responsible for it, the issue would be broad and straight between tariff reform and the Budget generally. The result of tariff reform, according to the experience of all lands, would be a keeping up and a steadying of wages, and the prevention of oscillation in the demand for labor.
