Luedke (formerly a minor clerk in the Berlin Provincial Court), Meyer (a cook), and Warnicke (a cyclist), went to the Civil Court in Berlin about tho hour.< at which the judges retire. They donned the judges’ robes and birettas, stolen from the conference room, and installed themselves at the table. The records in the room were examined. Documents showing money due to be advanced for litigants’ costs were next filled in. and the “judges” stamped the forms necessary to secure payment. Meanwhile the attendants entering and imagining the judges were conferring, apologised, retired, or were peremptorily ordered to quit. The immunity of the impostors was due to the multitude of judges and arbitrators dressed alike. The trio collected £2OO before the police accidentally got on their track and finally arrived.
