SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
GISBORNE
The Gisborne School Committee met last night under the chairmanship of Air. J. Somervell. Other members present were Messrs Ria-ch, Wildish, Spence, llcv.W. Grant, Rev. L. Dawson Thomas, Miss Morice, Airs. Walker. Mr. G. Crawsliaw, secretary of the Hawke’® Bay Education Board, wrote stating that the whole of the district boundaries were under revision, and enclosed a copy of suggested boundaries for Gisborne district for the approval of the Committee. The suggested boundary line was as follows: Starting at the south end of Ballancs Street on the Taruheru river, thence along the centre of the street as far as section 10, thence along the south east boundaries of sections 10, 9, and 8, to a public road, thence eastward along a public road to north-east corner of scetion 1.), thence southward by the eastern boundary cf that section and sections 26 and 25 to the Waimata river, thence down the river to the Turanganui river' to the sea, thence south along the sea coast to the Awapuni Road, west and south generally along the eastern boundaries "of sections 83, A 5, and 2, and the cemetery reserve to the Tarulieru river, and thence down the river to the starting point. , . It was decided to approve of tins boundary. , The report of the headmaster. Mr. Rowlev, referred to tlie fact that the school had the largest school branch of the Navy League in the Empire. On the suggestion of the chairman, the Rev. Dawson- Thomas moved votes of thanks to Messrs C. W. Palmer and J R. Kirk, for their recent lectures to scholars, and to Air. Crawford for hie offer to the. school of a photograph of the building. , , „ Airs. fAVal'ker asked if there was a truant officer in the district. Alombeis of the Women’s Guild often came across children who ought to be at school m their creche work. Air. Rowley said there was ail officer in Napier who occasionally summoned parents of habitual truants, but this system failed to get at children who* did not attend school ah all. A proper officer in the district was needed. Air. Wildish suggested that the secretary should write to the- Board of Education, and point out that it v.as an utter impossibility for a clerk in their office to attend to tlie truants in dsborne. The chairman seconded the motion, which was carried.
