OLD COWS FOR YIELDS.
THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD COWS ON TOP. The Ayrshire Cattle Alilk Records Committee lias recently published a record carefully and accurately compiled of .genuine dairying herds which have come- under its notice. A feature of the report is the undoubted proofs obtained that cows over ten years old are better milkers than those below that age. The following abstract from the report shows this clearly:
the .6 and 7 years eld cows, and the climax is reached by one no doubt exceptional old cow of 20 years of ago, which topped all other averages by yielding 818 gallons of containing the* high percentage of 3.7 of but-ter-fat. As far as richness of milk is concerned, the cows over 10 and up to 10 years old “.ept up tlicir yield quite as well as the younger cows, and m fact when their yields are calculated on a barns of 3 per cent, of huttcr-fat they still bear tlie palm. Let no one therefore despise the old cow C.r imagine that a crumpled horn is a sign of decadence.
