(Correspondence on public matters in welcomed at all times, but it must he distinctly understood that this journal is in no way associated witli the opinions of its correspondents. All Tetters must be legibly written and inscribed on one side of the paper only, otherwise they will not bo published. *A n asterisk at tho foot of a letter indicators that soino portion lias been excised.J COUNTY ELECTIONS. [To The Editor.] Sir,—ln reply to “County Elector’s” letter in yours of the 13th inst., 1 would beg permission to say, in reference to his statement “that the possible outcome of the contest may be a large harbor loan,” that it may also bring about another possible outcome by the introduction into the Council of the best man for the public interests, and result in a much needed reform in the administration of county affairs. But if “County Elector” means that tho possible outcome of the contest may be the loss of Captain Tucker’s .seat on the Harbor Board, which deprives that Board of tho power of incurring the expenditure of £50.000 and over, without the consent of the ratepayers, for experimental ’ work in the river, with all probability of a harbor rate having to be struck, in addition to the doubling of the wharfages. I fully agree with “ County Elector” that the issue is worthy of the ratepayers’ careful consideration on Wednesday.—l am, etc.. WM p ORAW FORD, President of the Progressive League.
