\ destructive hail storm swept a lar<re area of the south-eastern districts. In many places large lymps of ice fell, piercing iron roofs. Thousands of window panes wore broken. Crops in orchards and gardens were destroyed. i The damage round Brisbane alone amounted to some thousands.
