A great demonstration has been held in the Albert Hall, which was 'densely crowded, to express Christian’ England’s protests against the cruelties on the 'Congo. Alany bishops, peers, members of the House of Commons, and clergymen of . all denominations, were present. The Archbishop of Canterbury presided, and emphasised Britain’s share of the responsibility in creating the Free State. The Rev. Dr. Clifford, in .moving a resolution, which was carried with enthusiasm, in favor of complete reform in the administration, strongly attacked King Leopold’s rapacity and brutality. Other speakers, while exonerating the Belgian nation, threw the onus of the abuses on King Leopold. The Rev. Silvester Horne described ho'w people were done to death that European financiers might flourish and a millionaire libertine upon a throne give rein to his passions.
