rpru Pituss Association. l AUCKLAND, Nov. 20. At the Supremo Court, Mark Menzies, a colored man, was found guilty of assault upon a girl of eight years or ;isentence being deferred. Rickard John Yeoman was also found guilty on two charges of assault upon little girls, sentence being likewise deferred. A girl named Olive Yates pleaded »-uilty to concealment of birth, and was committed to St. Mary’s Home, to come up for sentence when called upon. Judge Cooper expressed agreement with the Grand Jury in throwing out the major charge. - Ernest Tyler pleaded guilty, to breaches of the Bankruptcy Act, failing to keep proper books. His father stated that the accused had no bad habits. Ho "was simply not intelligently capable. He had been muddled from birth.. Judge Cooper said the judges had come to a conclusion that this was not a class of offence in which probation could properly be granted. In six months’’ trade £ISOO had been unaccounted for. The evidence did not disclose criminal intent, but it d el disclose gross in competency. Under the circumstances lie would impose the light sentence of three months’ imprisonment without hard labor. - WELLINGTON CASES. WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. At the Supreme Court to-day, a young married couple named Moyes were acquitted on a charge of having made a false declaration under the Marriage Act in stating that the fema-o accused was of the legal age. There was some applause in the Court when the jury’s verdict was announced, but it was quickly suppressed. Patrick Murphy Was acquitted on a charge of stealing £2 from Joseph Hickens in a house in Wellington. . ,
