Burglars entered several business places in Vogel street early' yesterday* morning, and were rewarded with sev-> eral sums of money left in the tills, ranging from over £2 to a tew coppers. The railway refreshment rooms and bookstall at the station, w'ere also burbled. The drill hall was entered anr the armoury room ransacked, it is supposed with the object of finding explosives. It is surmised that the culprits had been attending the Dannevirkc races, and are filling in tune before the next race meeting. INDECENT ASSAULTS. PALMERSTON N., Nov. 22. At the Magistrate’s Court. "to-day an elderly man, named Gillett, was charged, on six separate counts, of indecent assault on girls between the ages of eight 'and eleven years, and was committed for trial at the Supreme Court. THE HAWERA SHOW. HAWERA, Nov. 22. Entries for the Hawera show total 1347., The live stock to be show'u are of special quality. DEER FOR BROKEN RIVER. CHRISTCHURCH, Nor. 22. Eight dear —one stag and seven hinds —were landed to-day from the s.s. Turakina and sent to Broken River, where they will be liberated. They have arrived in good condition, owing to the pens in which they were placed on board the steamer being sufficiently roomy. They have been imported by the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society from Mr. C. J. Lucas, of Warnham, Sussex, England. WEATHER IN CANTERBURY. Continuous rain since Saturday evening lias brought the fall for the year up to nearly 30? inches, or over 4 inches above the average, with six weeks still to go. Vegetation of all classes is abundant. The wheat is very rank, and rust has set in in some quarters, but in spite of this a heavy harvest is looked for. It is still raining. THE ARBITRATION COURT. DUNEDIN, Nor. 22. The Arbitration Court to-day began what promises to be a light sitting, when all the business to be dealt with was formal. Th© Court sits at Gore on Thursday. Apparently the operations of the Concilation Commissioners are reducing the work of the Court.
