MEETING OF COMMITTEE
There 1 ’ were large and enthusiastic attendances at the meetings of the various committees;last evening. The executive met subsequently under the chahmanship of the organiser, Air. Preston. ; The Hon. Jamjss Carroll wro.e accenting the position of patron, and the Mayor. Mr. AV. I). Lysnar, agreed to become president. Giving to tiie large number,of entries for the musical competitions, special consideration was given to the. best plan for dealing with tnese. It was decided to arrange a preliminary contest for the 15 brass instruments, and to let tliree compete in the final. The, voca! items will be rendered on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings, and at the matinees on Thursday and Saturday afternoons. The matter of judging was unanimously left in the hands of Messrs AI. Foster and James Brown. The art union tickets are going off exceedingly well, and this will be drawn on Saturday evening. Mr. AY. F. Crawford will arrange for the judging in the art and photographic sections, and the entries in each, are not limited to one only. It- was decided to ask Mr. Townley to see ‘if the Gas Co. coird improve the lighting of the hall. The applications for industrial space were considered very satisfactory. The Side-shows Committee reported exceptionally good progress. The matter of advertising and minor details received careful consideration. A vote of sympathy was unanimously passed with Air. James Chrisp, who is laid aside by illness.
