THE HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLEGRAM.
(Per Piikss Association.! AA 7 ELLINGTON, Nov. 22. The High-Commissioner’s cable, dated London, November 20, states: — The mutton market is slightly weaker, with less demand, and may decline further. Canterbury is at 4d, North Island 3£d.
The lamb market is weaker, with a downward tendency, and a dull sale for all lamb. Holders are anxious to sell. - Canterbury is at 4sd; New Zealand 3|d. ■ ' The beef market is dull, the sto<?k being heavy. New Zealand hindquarters are at 3|d, forequarters 3Jd. The butter market is firm with an improved demand for best- quality. Holders are firm - Thd butter - arrived in good condition.'" New Zea•':i nd choicest is at 120 s, Australian 116 s, Danish 1325, Argentine 118 s, Siberian 110 s. The cheese market is steady and there is fair business doing in best quality at 57s for New Zealand. , The market is dull for second class. The hemp market is steady and there is a fair business doing, the prospect improving. New Zealand good to fair and good grade on spot is at £26 10s, fair current Manila £27,. JanuaryMarch shipments of New Zealand good fair grade £27, fair grade £26, failcurrent Manila, £26 10s. The Manila output for the week was 241,000 bales. The cocksfoot seed market, is quiet. There is. a better demand, at the average price for bright clean 171b' New Zealand seed at 71s. > The wheat market is quiet, but there is a small supply of New Zealand. Holders are firm. New Zealand longberried wheat, on spot, ex granary, peaquarter of 4761b5, is at 395; New Zealand short-berried 38s 6d. The oat market is firm, with, an improved demand. New Zealand oats are scarce. - New" Zealand short oats (sparrowbills), ex granary, on spot, . per quarter of 2841b5, 20s 6d; New Zealand oats, Danish, per quarter of 320 lbs, 17,s 3d. . x The hop market is firm owing to re<Juced supplies. On the Bradford wool market there is small business, but the market is very firm on colonial reports. Spot forties sell at I3£d, forty-sixes 16d,. common sixties 253 d, superior 26|d, . sixty-fours 273 d, and futures common sixties superior sixty-fours 2G^d. The Osterley Grange s shipment of butter sold briskly, choicest salted quit-
ting at 114 s, 116 s, and. 118 s “New Zealand 120 s. Quotations for Danish are. unchanged. Owing to 1 the cessation of Siberian supplies, new secondaries and stored colonials are meeting with- more inquiry, the former selling at 104 s to 110 s, the latter at 98s to 104 s. The wheat market is quiet and idactive. Cargoes are steadily held. October shipments per sailers are offering at 41s, February-March shipments 37s 9d. There is a little inquiry for Australian on spot at 42s 6d to- 435, New Zealand 38s 6d to 39s 3d. Flour is slow of sale at 31s 3d for .spot, 31s 6d being asked for a JanuaryFebruary shipment. Barley is'in good demand. Australian malting is quoted at 34s To 37s 6d, ex-store; Chevalier, 30s to 355. For oats there is a good inquiry. Fine New Zealand Cartons sell at 20s to 22.5, sparrowbills 19s 6d to 20s 9d. La Plata quiet, January-February shipment 13s 3d. ...
