DRINK IN THE DOMINION.
The Prohibition party have succeeded it is true, in making the retail sale of liquor illegal in some districts of New Zealand, but that they have not diminished the drinking habits of the people is clearly shown by the steady annual increase in the consumption of liquor. It is a reflection upon their methods that the year in -which the heaviest Prohibition vote yet recorded was cast in the Dominion also witnessed the Dominion’s heaviest drink hill., Both parties have much need to amend tnedr ways if they desire a settlement of this question which shall he in the best interests'of the people.—Christchurch “Press.”
