GISBORNE CLUB
A match in the first round of the,, Handicap- Fours competition of the Gisborne Bowling Club was held yesterday afternoon, between Ambridge’s and Corson’s rinks. The former won by a substantial majority. The following were the rinks and scores: Lucas (sub.), T. Adair, F. W. Pettie, Ambridge (skip) (5) 28 beat H. Miller, Seymour, Paltridge, Corson (skip) (4) 16: It is anticipated that a number of matches will be played off this afternoon'. The first round of the Handicap Fours is to be concluded on Saturday next. TURANGANUI CLUB. At the Turanganui Bowling Club's green yesterday afternoon .a match was played in the Bennett Cup competition, the result of which was— B. Hird 17 beat J. P. Williams 16. Up to the 11th head the game was entirely in Williams’ favor, he being 13 to 3/ On the 12th" head Hird lav three, and Williams missed with a good drive; Hird drew another, and lay the possible. Then Hird gradually crept up to his opponent, who was also playing a. fine game. Twice Hird made deadheads when- Williams was lying well, a/nd with such result that the game showed 14 all on the 17th head. Then Williams got in a single. On the 19th head Williams was lying two. when Hird with a poor shot hit a w-de bowl and knocked it into shot—ls all. Hird got in two on the' 26th head. On the final head Williams scored • one, and thus suffered. defeat by the narrowest possible margin. It is expected there will be a large gathering of bowlers . this afternoon, when the Handicap Pairs will he commenced. Afternoon tea will be ! provided. . "■ : '■ . ‘...
