ACTING-PREMIER URGES BOTH SIDES TO MEET HIM.

Recognising that a strike deadlock / has arisen the acting-Premier has requested both sides to meet him.

The strike emissaries have been despatched to all States. It is expected that the weekly levies will amount to £SOOO.

Mr. Bowling’s colleries at Elbowmain and Young Wallsend are expected to start to-morrow. The estimated output of the two mines will' reach 2000 tons daily.. There is some dissatisfaction among the western miners at the union colliery scheme. The miners came out in order not to fill orders for the market, which would otherwise go to Newcastle. Tliey cannot see why coal should be supplied to a market that they ceased work so as to block. A thousand brickmalcers will be idle to-day. Altogether there are 20,000 •men idle as the result of the strike. MELBOURNE, Nov. 25. Many manufacturers are rapidly approaching the end of their coal stocks, and are preparing to close down. The inter-State steamship owners have two months’ supply.

LONDON, Nov. 24.

The “Times” says the New South Wales strikers seem to he unwilling tb push things to extremities, and it is hoped all the parties will see the necessity of coming to terms soon lest "worse things befall.

STATEMENT BY THE ACTING-

PREMIER.

SYDNEY, Nov. 25. (Received November 25, 9.45 p.m.) In the Assembly, in reply to a question, the acting-Premier said he .wished it clearly understood that the Government was not dictating, but trying to bring tlie parties together. He had asked representatives of both sides to meet him at an early date. He did not regard the difficulties between the coal mine owners and the men as insuperable.

ACTION OF NEW SOUTH WALES RAILWAY COMMISSIONERS.

The Railway Commissioners have issued instructions at Newcastle that until further notice no coal is to be hauled except for railway purposes. This will operate against Mr. Bowling’s scheme for working mines.
