NEW YOItK, Nov. 25.
One hundred and sixty-eight bodies were found in the Cherry mine in a great entangled mass, blocking the staircase from the third to the second coal vein. Their escape had been blocked by falling debris, and the men had succumbed to black damp in endeavoring to push thi'ough the obstructions while waiting for the rescuers. They evidently had been alive for days.
Two wooden fans had" been made and affixed to the shaft wall and turned by hand in a frantic effort to brush back the black damp, A dead miner was found firmly gripping a fan.
The victims left notes written on pieces of elate.
