CRICKET.
THURSDAY COMPETITION.
The Thursday competition matches •were continued at Victoria Domain and Taruheru yesterday. At the former ground United met Alhambra., and at the latter Y.M.C.A. tried conclusions •with Te Ran. The weather was dull, and ’pla\ T was spoiled to a certain extent by several smart .showers that fell during" the afternoon. 'i • ——— UNITED v. ALHAMBRA.
Neither/side was strongly .represented at the start. United won the toss and batted first, registering the good total of 185 runs before the last wicket fell. Manning played a very good innings for his score of 97, and Gibson, Austen, and Grenfell were the other double-figure scorers. Alhambra on going in to bat had at call of time lost two wickets for 42 runs, Lang (22) and Babbs (11 not out) being the principal contributors. The following are the scores: UNITED —Ist Innings.
Y.M.C.A. v. TE RAU. The Y.M.C.A. skipper won the toss, and elected to bat The . side was not disposed of until" the scoring boaid showed a total of 168. Barker played a capita! innings for 74, and the other chief scorers were Webster (38) and Morgan (26 not out), le Ran then went in to bat, and at call of time had scored 58 for the loss of one wicket.
