THE HIPPOLAS WRECK.

JUDGMENT OF COURT OF INQUIRY..

fPjJll PlllCHfl ASSOCIATION.! WELLINGTON, Nov. 27. At tho Hippolas inquiry, Captain Stewart, master of the Talcapuha, gave evidence as to finding tiio Hippolas and taking her in town. He saw no signal at Titirangi Bay, though lie looked through his glasses, nor did lie see signs of a ship’s boat. George Whitten, able seaman on the Hippolas, said the crew had agreed when they left the ship that it was unsafe to stay, as she might turn turtle at any moment. Without retiring, the Court delivered its judgment. It found that during the whole voyage Captain Norris had exercised the utmost care. The striking on Walker’s Bock was not due to or contributed to by negligence or carelessness. After striking the master adopted the best measures for the safety of the baraue and crew. The barque was wliollv abandoned, and the master was justified in doing so. The captain of the Takapuna acted properly in taking the barque in tow, and in endeavoring to reach Picton, instead of beaching her.
