NEW YORK, Nov. 29

With th© view of avoiding a tariff war with Canada, the chairman of the United States House of Representatives Committee on Interstate ,and Foreign Commerce, who recently conferred with President Taft, will shortly introduce a Bill to encourage and promote commerce between the United States and the Dominion of Canada. He recommends postponing the application of the' maximum tariff until 1910, also to admit Canadian woodpulp and printed paper free on -condition that no restriction is imposed on their export in the Dominion. LONDON; Nov. 29. ,

Tho “Times” New York correspondent says that the proposals indicate a desire to conciliate Canada. Tbe question is occupying the serious attention of the Tariff Board, which may possibly visit Canada for the purpose of investigation. i
