COAL FROM THE STRIKERS’ MINE

SYDNEY, Dec. 1.
The first coal from the strikers’ mine at Ebbw main colliery amounted to 3000 tons. The Railway Department t-ook half. It is understood that the Commissioners paid a reasonable price, which is between 10s and 15s per ton.
GOVERNMENT VICTORY IN STATE
PARLIAMENT
At 3 this morning Mr. McGowen’s motion censuring the Government for its action, was defeated by 40 to 25.
FIRM STAND BY THE GOVERNMENT.
(Received December 1, 8.50 p.m.) In the Assembly, in reply to a question, Mr. Lee stated that, as a result of Government intervention, negotiations were proceeding between the parties concerned in the strike. They had been given till to-morrow to come to an arrangement, failing which a Compulsory Board would be appointed on Friday.
DISASTROUS EFFECTS OF THE
STRIKE
Giving evidence before the Colliery Wages Board, prominent Newcastle proprietors declared that the foreign coal trade had recently fallen off 50 per cent, owing to freight and financial troubles and general depression. The result of the present strike was that next yea-r’s contracts had been placed elsewhere, and their foreign trade lost for that year.
MR. WADE STRIVING TO EFFECT A RECONCILIATION.

Mr. Wade had an interview in his bedroom, where he is still confined, with to-day, and sees Mr. Loarmouth to-morrow morning, his ohject being to give an opportunity of coming to some arrangement, so as to iorestal Jegal proceedings by the Government on Friday. A MINE OWNERS’ -STATEMENT. The Northern proprietors have handed to the press a lengthy statement of their position. They complain of misrepresentation by the strike leaders, and state that, having nothing to hide, they are willing to abide by tlio findings of a Parliamentary tribunal. They claim t-liat only an independent tribunal, can adjust the difficulties.
