27,000 MEN IDLE.'
.!Jn'itku PhVSH Association —I,'opyuigiit. SYDNEY, Dec. 2. There are 27,000 men idle, and the number is increasing daily. Further reductions have been made in the railway service. ANOTHER MINE WORKING. (Received • December. 3, 12.15 a.m.) The Wallsend mine started working to-day. > • - THE OUTLOOK NOT PROMISING. (Received December 3, 1.10 a.m.) Mr. Learmouth saw Mr. Wade this morning. Subsequently a Cabinet meeting was held at Mr. Wade’s residence and discussed the strike position, but nothing was divulged as to the progress of negotiations for bringing the parties together, or the .Government’s intentions.
It is believed that the probability of the parties coming together is not promising.
The strike congress -considered a request from the P. and 0. Company for the Coal Lumpers’ Union to discharge 6000 tons of Japanese coal, which arrived to-day by the 6tea.mer Palermo, intended for the company’s mail liners. Late to-night it was announced that the coal lumpers would work the coal.
MELBOURNE WHARF LABORERS STRIKE.
