MATAWHERO STOCK SALES.

Despite the unfavorable weather, there was a large attendance at the Matawhero stock sales yesterday, and a large yarding of sheep and cattle was submitted. The [prices obtained showed an appreciable advance. The keen demand for stock at present existing is due to the rise in wool and the abundance of .feed, consequent on the generous rains which have been, general over the district. The splendid growing weather has caused ..the fern to come away quickly, and there is a demand for cattle for crushing purposes. Consequently, the auctioneers had little difficulty in placing the various pens offered, at satisfactory prices. SHEEP.

About 3-500 were yarded, and competition was brisk alike for fats and sfores. The following were the prices realised: —7 shorn ewes 6s 9d. 4 fat ewes Bs, 33 wcollv ewes 7s 7d, 134 4tooth shorn wethers 10s 4d, 160 2-tooth shorn wethers 9s od. 465 woolly licggets (mostly wethers) 11s 9d. 5 fat ewes Bs, 4 fat ewes Bs, 114 dry ewes 7s 4/1, 10 shorn fat ewes 9s 3d, 10 do 10s, 5 fat lambs 9s Gd, IS2 mixed sexes (in wool) 13s, 141 ewes and 160 lambs (off shears) 12si 38 ewes Bs, 53 mixed 2-tooths 6s, 32 wethers 10s fid. 7 ewes and 7 lambs 11s 9d. 12 empty ewes 8s 9d. 270 wethers (2, 4. and 6-tooth) 10s 6d, 50 fat ewes 9s, 16 hoggets Bs, 141 ewes and 100 lambs 12s. 2T fat ewes 14s, 16 fat wethers los 2d, 2S owes 14s 2d, 28 fat ewes 14s 2d. 103 2-t.ooth mixed 10s, 70 2-tooths 8s 3d. 14 fat ewes 8s 6d, IS2 hoggets 13s, 105 hoggets 9s 6d, 18 hoggets 7s, 67 ewes and 53 'lambs 13s od. ' 1 CATTLE. There was a large yarding of cattle,, including a fine lino of Hereford heifers from Messrs Bloomfield Bros.’ Te-Hau-o-te-Atua station. The demand was keen, and very few pens were passed in.
