ART CURIO AND INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
SATISFACTORY PROGRESS REPORTS.
There were large and enthusiastic attendances at the various committee meetings of the Art. Curio and Industrial Exhibition last night. ..and very satisfactory progress was reported by all.
f: The Executive mot later, with'Mr. Preston as chariman, when a deal of important- business was transacted. The Art Union Committee reported that the prizes had been placed on view in the centre window of Messrs Hallenstein Bros.’, and arrangements made for numbering the drawing tickets. All books sold to date are to he returned by- Monday. The Mayor, Messrs Townley and Kirk were appointed a committee to supervise the drawing on Saturday night, December 11th. and all books; whether sold or unsold; must bo returned by' next Thursday night. - Arrangements have been made for the bandsmen to attend each evening in uniform, and also for those members of the Fire Brigade on duty to appear in uniform.
The hand will play an Exhibition programme of music on the “Herald” balcony this evening. The- Hon. James Carroll has sent some interesting armament exhibits from the Defence Department, and ■will also send an exhibition of Maori curios. In connection with the fancy work section, it was decided to include canvas work in the competition division. Mr. J. Colley has kindly arranged to grant the services of one of his foremen for the purpose of erecting fittings next week. The Garrison Hall has been taken from Mondav morning nevt, and the committee will be prepared to receive any exhibits after noon on Tuesday. It "is earnestly desired that those exhibiting will arrange to supply their exhibits on that day. if possible m order that the work may be expedited It is fnllv expected as a result of this Exhibition, which is to open next AVednesdav night, the City Band will be placed on a permanently satisfactory basis. As the Band is always wdliu.ff to assist local objects, it is conndentlv hoped that the public will respond by attending the different gatherings, at which excellent entertainment will he provided.
