A TRUSTING POLICY.

In a strenuous endeavor to justify the Mayoral policy over the loan proposals, (our evening contemporary wrote as follows in yesterday’s issue: The loan proposals, do not bind the Council to use Kaitaratalii shingle, but if the loan is carried the Council will appoint a thoroughly competent engineer, and. under his direction the .streets will he formed, and metalled with whatever metal is considered most suitable. Surely that is sufficient guarantee that the money will be judiciously expended and not thrown away. In matters of this sort somebody has to be trusted to do the right thing. The main thing for the present is i that •we should trust ourselves and have confidence in the future of our town: Precisely! As the ‘‘Herald” soys, “somebody has to be trutv<d.” Our guileless contemporary' is appax-ently .prepared to put a soulful trust in Mr. W. D. Lysnar and all his works, but apparently the last people in the world it is prepared to trust are the ratepayers. ' . Wo are getting somewhat; tired of this constant endeavor on the part.of the Mayor, Cr. Kirk, and other, allies, including the “Herald,” to bolster. up the faulty road construction scheme. If they are. so satisfied as to. its soundness why not trust the people to. vote for it?
