SHIPWRECKS AND LOSS OF LIFE

There has been a violent gale on the British coasts. The steamer Thistlemore blew up and foundered, with her crew of 30, at Clovelly (North Devonshire). Four bodies were washed ashore.

The steamer Ellanvannin, bound from the Islo of Man for Liverpool, foundered on the Mersey bar. Twenty-one of her crew and 12 passengers were drowned. Much damage has been done inland.
