ANOTHER STRIKE LEADER ARRESTED. ' United Phvsa Association—Copyright. The discharge of tho Marmora’s general cargo has been commenced by unionists.

THE EFFECT OF THE ARRESTS

Mr Hughes declares that the arrests will enormously complicate the situation.

The Railway and Tramway Association refused to countenance a general strike mania or the Bowling type of leader. In voting money for strike purposes the association earmarked it for specific use. All the leaders arrested were admitted to hail within a few hours. The offence alleged wa s committed on the sth. This was the date on which the delegate board recommended a strike. The police visited the Trades Hall, and secured a large number of documents and a minute book relating to the proceedings on November sth. A mass meeting of miners, held at Newcastle, and addressed by Mr Bowling and other leaders, passed a.resolution condemning the Government’s at titude. Everything passed off quietly.

The Dorset strike was due to a misapprehension on the part of the men that a general strike had been ordered. Thev resumed work this afternoon.

Mr. Lewis, the treasurer of the Northern Miners’ Federation, has been arrested.

Those arrested on Saturday appeared at the Newcastle Court, and veie remanded till to-morrow.

WATERSIDE .WORKERS WILL ' TINUE WORK.

(Received December 7, 12.40 a.m.) An important meeting of the waterside workers to-night 'expressed confidence in the Strike Committee, and resolved to continue work. There was a strong feeling at the outset to “down tools,” but Mr. Hughes succeeded in persuading the men to continue work.
