ROPE WORKS DESTROYED.

The works were closed down at the usual time, but an hour and a half later a passer-by noticed flames through one of the windows at the opposite end of the building from the machinery. In a Jfew minutes the. building wa3 completely enveloped in flames, and ,a little later the'.roof collapsed,,, Within half an? hour of the outbreak the whole, building was totally destroyed, .together with machinery valued, at £IBOO, i which manufactured all classes of rope and twine. The fire will throw 70 men-out of emplyment for a long period, . owing to the fact that it will be necessary to import new, machinery from England.
