GISBORNE OIL COMPANY.
THE BERING OPERATIONS.
The Mayor (Mr. W.. D. Lysnar), who also is chairman of directors of the Gisborne Oil.'Cdnipany, received’ a satisfactory report yesterday from Mr. McDonald. at Waitangi, regarding the progress of the boring operations there. For the six days prior to Saturday, a further depth of 129 ft was the result, bringing the total depth of the bore to 973 ft on Saturday afternoon. The formation through which the bore was going showed a further improvement at a depth of 939 ft, and six feet further down gaseous sandstone was encountered. This fact is con-, sidered to y be significant, and to be a strong indication that the bore had not 1 penetrated below the' oil-bearing strata.
