ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
FATAL RESULT OF A MOTOR-CAR ACCIDENT. {Pnu Press Association.! NAPIER, Dec. 9. A young man. named Wm. Bodley, aged 19 years, son of Henry Bodley oPohui, died at the Napier hospital this morning, as the result of an accident. It appears that on November 30th. the deceased was riding on the road hear Pohui, when his horse was frightened by the motor-car. There was a collision between the car and the horse and the animal fell and trod on one of young Bodley’s hands. Blood poisoning set in with a fatal termination. A BOY DROWNED. NAPIER, Dec. 9. A boy named Geo. Norman, aged eight years, son of William Norman, a laborer, was drowned in the Tut-aekuri River, near the recreation ground, this evening while bathing. Efforts at rescue made by several young men were frustrated by a strong current and the muddy state of the water. ACCIDENT ON THE MIDLAND RAILWAY. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 9. Daniel Cruickshank, employed on the Midland railway works, in the vicinty of the' Cass, -beyond Broken River, met with a serious accident to-day. He was running out a truck, which went over the end of an embankment, taking him with dt. He fell a distance of 30 or 40ft, and the truck lauded' on top of him. His injuries were so serious t that he was removed to the Christchurch Hospital. SUDDEN DEATH OF AN OLD v WOMAN. Elizabeth Rice, 74 years of age, die* suddenly at Kaiapoi, of heart failure, to-day. THE RAKAIA DROWNING 0: FATALITY. The constable at Little River reports in connection with the drowning fatality at the mouth of the Rakaia River that, after searching the beach north of the river, no traces of the bodies were; y found.
