AUCKLAND STRAWBERRIES.
THE WELLINGTON SUPPLY.
f L’icit Press Association.'! WELLINGTON, Dec. 11. Under tlio old train arrangements a large supply of Auckland strawberries used to reach this market, but dealers now complain that the charges are too high, and the fruit cannot be prohtably brought down. On the other hand the growers have lost a profitable outlet. One writes to a merchant here: “Very heavy marketings, are; being made in Auckland, and the market is fairly well glutted. No one would believe in the injury done to the local strawberry growers bv the altered conditions.” Tt is stated that railage on seven crates, weighing nearly two cwt., received here yesterday was’lßs, or £9 a, ton. Wellington'' has been one .of Auckland’s best outlets, and the present conditions are a change for the worse for everyone, including the consumer. This fruit, except of poor quality, is now' too dear to buy.
