rpEK Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 11. Concluding their statement on the licensing compromise that was atter : wards rejected, the Rev*. A. Dewdney and Rev. J. Dawson state: “Throughout the whole of the proceedings we have acted in perfect good faith. \\e have not fooleu, nor wish to fool, either the Government or the liquor party. Individually we still think that the basis arrived at would prove a satisfactory one, and if it had been a business bargain between us as individuals and the Government, we should have been prepared to take all the risk; -but- since this was a matter that affected many thousands of voters, many of whom protested against this particular point, we felt that we had no right to insist upon overriding their wishes when their judgment differed from outs.
