BAPTIST GARDEN FETE.
The grounds kindly lent by the Hon. Captain Tucker for the Garden Fete next Thursday are admirably adapted for the purpose. Numerous widespreading trees will provide cool and delightful shade. The various stalls and many other attractions artistically arranged about the grassy sward will present a charming scene. Among the many novelties is a decorated bicycle competition for \A\hick a considerable number of entries are .being received. Mr. Anderson has consented to act as judge, aud a valuable prize will be given. “Coney Island,” which was one of the sensations at the art and curio exhibition, Avill be one of the numerous side attractions. A number of exciting competitions for old and young are being arranged for, and there will be abundant fun for everybodv throughout- the day aud evening. The ladies at the Cafe Ckantant expect to do great business. An orchestra will render bright music during the afternoon. The grounds will be brightly illuminated during the evening. Special acetylene gas connections are being laid doAA'n. The City Band has kindly arranged to play from 7 p. 13.. and the concert, for Avlneh an attractive programme has been prepared, AA'ill commence at 7.30 p.m. The balloon ascent will take place at 9 p-m-, and the exciting “search for the pilgrim” will commence at 9.30. This novel competition, which has aroused areat fun elsewhere, will he joined in. bv a large number of people. Tlie pur. chase of the souvenir paper “Progress will entitle all to enter for the beautiful salad service worth 50s. Ihe paper is well arranged, and will be a bright little memento of the groat effort that is being made to complete the £SOO required to erect the School building in. connection with the Baptist Tabernacle. As the obiect for which the fete.is being held is a deserving one, it is hoped the .public will attend in large numbers. PATHE PICTURES. Another good attendance greeted the programme presented last night by the Pathe Pictures, and those present were loud in their praise of the excellence of the films presented. “A from tli Dead,” os on Saturday, again proved popular, and “Nick Carter m Danger” was a film that caused frequent applause the audience closely flowing each exciting incident. ‘The Pick of the Russian Cavalry” was a film depicting some sensational horsemanship, at times verging on what seemed almost impossible. The Mountebanks Son” came in for loud applause, and “Buffalo Bill’s Famous Exploits, besides being a film full of incident, was a regular triumph of color cinematography. The comic class were all of a highly amusing character, the greatest hit being “The. Makeshift Postman.'” this good" programme, an entire change To-night is the last chance of seeing being presented to-morrow.
