GISBORNE CLUB
A match in the third round of the handicap singles of the Gisborne Bowding dub took place on the Club’s j green yecterdajp afternoon. when S-Zachariah (9 points) beat Witty (5 ■points) by seven points, the finalscore, including handicap allowance, being 30 to 23. On the first head Witty, by \ getting in all four bowls, wiped out the lead given to Zachariah by the handii capper. On the second head he put sup three, and did not score thereafter | for half-a-dozen "heads, when he got. in a single. In the meantime Zachariah -had run up 16 points. Witty then rallied, and the play for the remainder .of the game was of a more even description. TURANGANUI CLUB. At the Turanganui Bowling Clubs green yesterday afternoon, a match in i the Bennett Cup competition was i played, the result of which was W. Ratcliff© 26 beat C. J. Bennett ! 15.—Bennett commenced strongly with •a single, a four and a three, being 8 to Ratcliffe’s 1 in the 4th head. Rat- ; cliffe then steadied his play, and gra- | dually overhauled his opponent, who up , to the 11th head was unable to score, the board on that head showing Rat- ! cliffe 13, Bennett 8. On the next head ! Bennett put up three, and then failed jto score for five heads, Ratcliff© being 21 to 11 on the 16th head, eventually ; winning by eleven points; Bennett f only scored on six heads.
