ANOTHER CHANCE.

A determined effort is being made to induce the to believe that to-day’s poll will afford the only opportunity to obtain sewerage and other municipal improvements. This is quite misleading. In the event of to-day’s poll being lost, the Council willl most certainly re-submit the issues in a separate form, and give the ratepayers the right which is undoubtedly theirs, namely, of voting for the schemes they want and agajnst those they do not want. Councillors Darton, Pettie, Clayton, Collins, and Smith are already publicly (pledged to this course of 'action, and if the proposals should be defeated to-day the ratepayers will be given an opportunity within a few weeks’ time to vote upon the same questions submitted in a more reasonable form. We are convinced that the bulk of the raepayers share our own attitude upon the general issue. They favor all, or most, of the schemes put Forward, but they are not satisfied with the financial estimates put forth by the Mayor, and they strongly resent the placing of til* issues in a consolidated form. Whether they will carry their resentment so far as to vote against the proposals as a matter of principle is another question. There is no doubt that very many have been “bluffed” into deciding to vote for all the proposals, through being led to believe that to-day’s poll is their only chance. We again emphasise that a defeat to-day will really mean a victory for the ratepayers, who will then be given an early opportunity to vote separately upon each of the schemes that are under consideration. There will be another chance.
