PUBLIC WORKS ESTIMATES.
ITEMS OF INTEREST TO GISBORNE
(Special to “Times.”) WELLINGTON, Dec. 20. The Public Works Estimates set down the amount required for railways for the year at £1,140,000, as against £l,285,000 voted 1 last year, but °t which only £1,102,000 was expended. £BO,OOO is set down for the Gisborne-Rotorua railway as against £60,000 last year, of which only £40,601 was expended. The following additional local votes are included in the Estimates: Courthouse. Waipiro, £700; Gisborne (alterations), £750: gaol, Gisborne, £2000; post and telegraphs Waipiro Bay, (quarters), £500; residence for stock inspector, re Puia, Waipiro Bay, £6O. V - , A sum of £18,060 is set down under the heading of the Gisborne Road District, including the following items: Gisborne to Hangaroa (£6OO contributed by County Council, Cook), £1250, Gisborne to Rotorun (stock) (Cook), £SO; Gisborne to Wairoa County boun. darv via Tiniroto-Hangaroa river, road’and bridge (Cook), £300; Munwai bridge No. 2 (Cook), £300; Karaua to Morere (Cook), £200; Whareonga-ong-a Block (Cook), £100; Wharerata to Mohanga (Wairoa and Cook), ijxou ; supervision. £750;: contingencies, miscellaneous works and services,. £l5O. Telephone trunk wires, Waipukurau to Napier, Napier to Gisborne, and others not completed £19,000. • £42,000 is set down for roads to open up Crown lands in the Gisborne road district, .and £25.575 for the hack blocks roads, # Gisborne road district, embracing various counties.
