GISBORNE CLUB
The usual weekly committee meeting of the Gisborne Rowing Club was held last night, Mr. C. J. Hamilton presiding. > it was decided to extend the time for receiving entries for the single sculling events until January Ist, and also to row a club double-sculling event, entries to close on Thursday, 23rd December. Both these events will be- rowed carlv in January. Messrs O. M. Sargisson and L. F. Williams were appointed the. visiting committee for the week.
The proposed amendments in connection with the Licensed Victuallers’ Shield competition, allowing of the inclusion of the Wairoa and Uawa Rowiug Clubs, wero approved, and Messrs C. J. Hamilton, W. Johnston, L. F. Wililams, and E. Swinnerton were appointed delegates to confer with the other clubs.
POVERTY BAY CLUB. The races in this club for tlie Robertson trophies were commenced last evening, when M. McLeod, H. Williams, B. McLeod and V. Ensor beat J. McConnell, W. Neill, M. Sceats, E. Whitfield by about a length. T. McConnell, Parker, L. Clarke, and V. Pederson beat E. Roche, G. Peterson, H. Gollingwood, and: VV. Dayman by half a length after a very hard race. C. Clark, L. Nicolas. T. Bristow, and J. Jones beat A. Kirk, P. Neilson, Pearson, and J. O’Neill by two length.- One member in the losing crew had the misfortune to lose his slide near the bridge, thus accounting for the big lead of the winning crew. S. Doig, J. Weston, Payne, and O. Hansen beat R. Wilkinson, E. Dwyer, 11. Heifford and E. Hure by half a length, after an easy race. This evening Holschier meets Winter, the last race in the first round. The second round will also commence, when T. McConnell meets J. Webb. Tomorrow evening the winner of,the Hol-schier-Winter race rows McLeod, and C. Clarks • meets J. Bragge. A meeting of the committee of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club was hold in the Cosmopolitan Club last evening. Mr. W. Webb, captain,^presided. ' Messrs R. Jones, J. svebb, and "VV. Fraser were elected a selection committee, and Mr.. McLeod was appointed acting deputy-captain during the absence of the deputy captain. Strokes were picked for the double sculls for the Grieve medals, entries for which close on Friday.
